What I've learnt from Indian Dramas

Growing up, my parents loved to watch Indian dramas. I remember sitting down on a Friday night, watching these dramatic soaps about characters who lived in an entirely different world than I did. It also became like a tradition in our household. I'll admit they were pretty entertaining for a while - when I had no idea how utterly predictable and ridiculous they actually were! Since moving back home with my parents, I have been subjected to the world of Asian dramas again. It has literally been unavoidable. Lucky I have learnt sooo many valuable life lessons from these shows, that I decided to share them with you all today! So without further ado, let's get started!

1. Your mother-in-law and sister-in-laws are your arch-enemies
No matter how good you are, how much you do for the family, your mother-in-law and sister-in-laws are just destined to hate you. Call it envy at first sight. They have been against you from the moment you've stepped into their lives, and that won't change anytime soon. Whatever you want to achieve in life, they'll find a way to close the door on your dreams. They'll even try to tear your marriage apart, which leads us to ...

2. It's not true love, unless we have ridiculous amounts of obstacles to face
Romeo and Juilet have nothing on the couples in these dramas. Not only do their families test this couples' dedication to the brink, but also their potential love interests. Without a doubt, there will always be one jealous party member who decides to take it too far - weather it's a jealous ex-girlfriend or a psychotic guy friend, whose harboured a unrequited crush for way too long. Well you know what they say, it ain't love if it isn't star-crossed!

3. It doesn't matter if you die, they'll be another to take your place
Asian dramas love look-a-likes. People who have 'passed away' always seem to somehow come back from the dead with new identities. Or they're a completely different person with the same face - the doppelganger live in the flesh. Another person to carry on the life-long legacy of drama until the very end  - which of course is like another 200 episodes to go. Can't have it end so soon, can we?

4. You earn a dramatic close up and zoom in, every time life gets dramatic
Drama is at the centre of these characters lives, and every moment is pinnacle. So weather someone decides to confesses to a murder, disrespect a family member, or even when a husband decides to tell his wife that he can't make it for dinner, there's always a countless amounts of zoom-in close-ups for the occasion. And let's face it, that practically happens almost every single episode. But if you're really lucky - and just that devilishly evil - you may be upgraded to the ultimate grand slap! It'll be shown from every single angle, and at least three times! Oh, you know you've made it big, when that happens.
