Ways to Relieve Stress

21 March 2015

It's that time of year again. You're surrounded by deadlines and exam preparation, and you so desperately can't wait until it's all over. Then you can truly find your peace of mind. But why wait until it's all over? You need something in between to tie you over between study breaks. Trust me - I know. Even though it's been a year since I was in my final year of university, I remember ever so clearly how stressful it was. There was so much going on, and so much to do. Here are a couple of ways to help relieve the mind, after a long day of working.

Take a walk.
Talk a walk to the park. Go visit a museum. Visit the river down by the road, and rediscover nature. Do something that evolves you psychically leaving your house, the library and your everyday surroundings and go somewhere new. The breathe of fresh air will do you good.

Pick up 'Wreck This Journal'
Completing the little activities in 'Wreck This Journal", was actually a really great way to unwind after a long day of studying for me during my final year. These activities can really take your mind of things, and bring out the inner child in sophisticated little old you. It's amazing how doing a little something silly can take off the pressure at the end of the day.

Read something new
Look outside your course material, and find something new to read. Maybe a book you've been meaning to read for a while. Or if you're like me and devour books in a day, read an old book you haven't read in forever. Reminisce on old memories, and rediscover stories that you haven't thought about in a while.

Call a friend
Talk to someone you haven't spoken to in a while. Make future plans outside of your current studying life. They could be small, or they could be big. A Starbucks coffee meet up, a trip down to the beach after you've finished your work. All of that will be a reward for all the hard work you're doing right now. It'll also help to remind you that life exists beyond these four intense walls of studying.

Take regular breaks
Allow procrastination to seep in once in a while. Let your mind breathe. It needs a moment to breathe. Do something that makes you feel good. Maybe start watching a few YouTube videos. Vlogs are always the best way to end the day.

I hope these tips help. And remember most importantly, it may not seem it at the moment, but this is just one stage of life. This part of life doesn't last forever. You will get through this. Hang in there, you got this!
